Bespoke Cultural Intelligence

Before entering a market, understand its cultural context.

Doka brings Anthropology, Sociology and Philosophy together to investigate how values, social relationships and cultural practices shape the way people interpret brands, products and messages.

Research designed around your business decision: entering a market, growing or connecting with new audiences with cultural respect and greater strategic clarity.

Three perspectives. One integrated investigation.

All three disciplines address the same business question. We bring their insights together to connect everyday life, social relationships and the values at stake.

Everyday life and meaning

Anthropology

We investigate practices, customs, rituals, symbols and the meanings that products and brands acquire in people’s lives.

Relationships and context

Sociology

We examine social relationships, institutions, inequalities and differences across groups, regions and generations that affect trust and access.

Values and responsibility

Philosophy

We examine values, ethical dilemmas and the brand’s assumptions, questioning what it considers desirable and the consequences of its actions.

For businesses that need to understand before they act.

Foreign companies entering new countries

For foreign companies entering any country, understanding local contexts and dynamics is critical before adapting products, positioning, communication, service or channels. This understanding helps avoid a culturally misaligned entry and reduce the risk of losing the initial investment in that market.

Companies, manufacturers and brands seeking new audiences or regions

Investigate cultural differences within a country without treating it as a single culture or a uniform consumer profile.

Each project considers the countries and regions of interest, research capabilities, access to sources and local knowledge. Delivery involves qualified professionals and partners from the context being studied, where needed.

How we build the study.

The question determines the method. Each proposal defines audiences, regions, sources, techniques, responsibilities and limitations before research begins.

  1. Define the decision

We establish the business challenge, cultural context, audiences and decisions the study needs to support.

  2. Investigate the context

We combine documentary sources, academic research and public accounts with conversations, interviews or observation, as appropriate to the project. Field methods depend on access, consent and qualified professionals.

  3. Connect the three perspectives

We connect everyday practices, social structures and values. We challenge interpretations with counterevidence and internal differences, avoiding the conversion of observed patterns into stereotypes.

  4. Translate findings into brand implications

We assess implications for products, communication, experience and relationships, distinguishing supported findings from ideas that still require testing.

  5. Discuss next steps

We present the cultural analysis, recommendations and questions to validate with the client’s team. Format and depth are defined in the proposal.

Five possible deliverables, tailored to the project.

The combination, format and depth of deliverables are defined around the business problem. They are not a mandatory package or a guarantee of commercial results.

  1. A map of relevant cultural contexts

Values, practices, symbols and differences across the groups and regions that matter to the brand, with sources and the limitations of the analysis.

  2. Trust, expectations and potential sources of rejection

What may build credibility, create identification or distance people from the brand, with attention to contradictions and contexts of use.

  3. Guidance on language, symbols and communication

Criteria for tone of voice, messages and cultural references, identifying choices that need adaptation or local validation.

  4. Implications for products, service and experience

How cultural understanding can inform the offering, channels, service and relationships before and after purchase.

  5. Market entry or expansion options

Priorities, alternatives and questions to test as the brand evaluates its next steps, including risks and conditions that could change the recommendation.
